Get with the programme: new ideas floated for long-running WMA event

There are several new ideas for Waikato Muslim Association's long-running monthly Islamic programme, with opportunities for the whole family to get involved.

The Islamic programme has been a regular fixture at the Hamilton Mosque for several years. The next event is scheduled for Saturday 26 June.

"The programme has a solid foundation. Now it is time to take it to the next level," said Asad Mohsin, president of the Association.

The programme is for both genders and all ages and regularly features a short talk by a local or visiting Islamic scholar. The programme has also included refreshments. "We want this to be a regular gathering for the whole family," said Dr Mohsin.

The programme could include segments for a quiz, socialising and sharing news. There would also be opportunities for young people to contribute by giving recitations from the Quran or sharing a short speech.

"This could help prepare our youngsters for competitions such as the annual FIANZ National Quran Competition. It features Quran, Hadith, speech and quiz categories for participants up to 18 years old," said Dr Mohsin.

With so many great ideas, Waikato Muslim Association is calling for volunteers to help turn them into reality. "We are blessed to have a talented and committed community," said Dr Mohsin.

"We welcome volunteers to help organise the event and families to nominate their children to participate."
